About Calcium Lactate Anhydrous
Calcium Lactate Anhydrous is an inorganic salt made of two lactate anions for each calcium cation. It is manufactured by adding calcium hydroxide or calcium carbonate to a lactic acid solution and heating them at 100°C.
In 14th November 2017, Food and Drug Administration approved calcium lactate as a food additive and affirmed this substance as generally recognized as safe (GRAS); Since then, calcium lactate has been used as a food additive and a calcium supplement for making bread, soy milk, orange juice and yogurt.
Nowadays, calcium lactate anhydrous is used as a firming agent, flavoring agent, leavening agent, stabilizer, and thickener in many different industries. It is also found in daily dietary supplements as a source of calcium. Compared with other calcium salts, calcium lactate has great bioavailability and good solubility.
Calcium lactate is also reported to function as an anti-microbial, enhancer of bone mineral density, anti-caries, anti-carcinogen.
It may be used to treat conditions caused by low calcium levels such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, hypoparathyroidism, and latent tetany.
